Program:  Rob Clingaman introduces Niles Football Head Coach Dave Janicki.  Dave became the Niles coach in 2000 and has revitalized the football program.  Niles won their conference championship in 2001 and made their 1st ever playoff appearance.  They made the playoff again in 2002, and in 2003 earned their first-ever playoff win!

Dave tells us that the team has earned all-state academic honors for 6 years now.  When he entered the program 50-60 kids participated in Football annually - this year well over 100 kids came out for the team.  In his first year they had 6 students become ineligible due to academics and he made it clear to these and all his football players that it's a privelege to play on the Niles football team, not a right.  He has three goals for the football program - to make each player a ... 1.. better person 2. better student and 3. better athlete - in that order.  He believes it's important to teach kids how to properly shake someone's hand while looking them in the eye.

Mr Janicki then introduced one of his top players and an outstanding young man, Rick Storm.  Rick has a 4.0 GPA, attends Andrews University part time, and has been accepted to West Point.  He is also considering the University of Michigan.  Rick is a 3-way player - offense, defense, and special teams.

Rick says football played an important role in his social and mental development as well as his physical development.  Football is designed to teach and inspire academic success.  It teaches a great work ethic, and that you can always push yourself a little harder.
